FOR NEXT WEEK

1. RESEARCH MODES OF LISTENING (assigned)

a) Engage in the mode of listening you have been assigned in two separate contexts while thinking about the multiple ways in which this mode can be adopted or applied.

b) Find two instances in which this mode of listening occurs in everyday life. Take notes, research online and come prepared to share information with classmates.

2. LISTEN TO THESE SOUNDWORKS

Chris Watson - 3 tracks: Embleton Rookery, River Mara at Dawn, River Mara at Night (1996)

What kind of pictures form in your mind when listening to these field recordings?

Christina Kubisch - Wellenfang (watch from 5:30 – 15:30, watch it all if you have time) (2010) (kubisch_wavecatcher.mp4)

Speculate on what might be missing from this document, and this project in general?

The Ghost Orchid - selections (1970s) (ghostorchid_excerpts.WAV)

Meditate on the relationship between the Electronic Voice Phenomena specialist’s introductions to each clip, and the clips themselves.

What role does repetition play here?

3. FINALIZE YOUR SPACE AND PERFORMANCE FOR THE FIRST PROJECT
